SIGSEM is the Special Interest Group on Computational Semantics of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL).

The SIGSEM Working Group on the Representation of Multimodal Semantic Information is concerned with the study of how to best represent semantically relevant information in multimodal messages - see further under "Background".

The WG had its first working meeting on January 14, 2003 at Tilburg University, The Netherlands, in conjunction with the 5th International Workshop on Computational Semantics, IWCS-5, which took place in Tilburg on January 15-17, 2003.

The second meeting of the WG was held on September 22-23 during the Nancy Inference Week at INRIA-LORIA in Nancy, France.

The third meeting of the WG took place in conjunction with LREC 2004, on May 24-25 in Lisbon, Portugal.

The fourth working meeting of the WG was held on January 10 and 11, 2005 at Tilburg University, The Netherlands, in conjunction with the 6th International Workshop on Computational Semantics, IWCS-6, Tilburg, the Netherlands, January 12-14, 2005. This meeting took the form of a joint workshop with the Task Domain Group on Semantic Content Representation that was established within ISO (the International Standards Organisation) as ISO TC 37/SC 4/TDG 3 in Lisbon in May 2004.

The fifth working meeting of the WG was an invitation-only joint workshop with the ISO TC 37/SC 4 Task Domain Group on Semantic Content Representation at the Institute for Information Sciences (ISI) in Marina del Rey, California, April 2006.

The sixth working meeting of the WG was held on January 8 and 9, 2007 at Tilburg University, The Netherlands, in conjunction with the 7th International Workshop on Computational Semantics, IWCS-7, which took place on January 12-14, 2007. This meeting was organized as a joint workshop with the ISO Task Domain Group on Semantic Content Representation.

In January 2009 a meeting was held in the form of the isa-4 Fourth Joint ISO-ACL/SIGSEM Workshop on Interoperable Semantic Annotation on January 5 and 6, 2009 at Tilburg University, The Netherlands, in conjunction with the 8th International Conference on Computational Semantics, IWCS-8, January 7-9, 2009. This was again a joint workshop with the ISO Task Domain Group TC 37/SC 4/TDG 3 on Semantic Content.

isa-5
In 2010 a meeting took place in Hong Kong in January, in the form of the isa-5 Joint ISO-ACL/SIGSEM Workshop on Interoperable Semantic Annotation, January 15-17, 2010 at City University of Hong Kong, in conjunction with the Second International Conference on Global Interoperability for Language Resources ICGL-2010,, January 18-20, 2010. This was again a joint workshop with the ISO Task Domain Group TC 37/SC 4/TDG 3 on Semantic Content.

isa-6
The most recent meeting took place in January 2011 in Oxford, in the form of the isa-6 Workshop on Interoperable Semantic Annotation on January 11-12, 2011 at Oxford University, in conjunction with the Ninth International Conference on Computational Semantics IWCS 2011,, January 12-14, 2011. This was again a joint workshop with the ISO Task Domain Group TC 37/SC 4/TDG 3on Semantic Content.
